“There is no limit to the power of animation so try not to contain your creativity,” said Ketan Mehta, a National Award Filmmaker and one of the pioneers of Animation industry in India. He charmed the students of Whistling Woods International at their weekly 5th VEDA event with illustration demonstrations interspersed with film clips, telling hilarious stories while advising how to make it as an independent artist. He went on to encourage the students to follow their passion, giving specific advice on how they could make a living if they chose to remain independent as he has done. Some of the students overwhelmed him when they displayed their own creation along with singing some famous jingles of the most loved cartoons.

He said that it is now an incredibly fortunate time to become an animator and encouraged students to begin now and take the road less travelled. We are in a constant digitally evolving world, he stated, entering the Golden Age of animation in India, with gaming, commercials, television and Internet offering countless opportunities for expression. He also mentioned how the focus has shifted towards the digital market due to its great demand which has led to numerous initiatives being taken by the government and corporate sector. He also said, “Animation is like an exciting journey which puts life in an inanimate thing therefore making an impossible thing, possible.”

The students were shown AV’s of compiled animated movies and other ventures as examples followed by an AV on ‘Spiritual Reality- a journey within’ which dealt with the subliminal topic of life after life.
