“There are only few learned directors who recognize and value the importance of art and the details which lie in it and those are the ones who are extremely successful,” said multifaceted artist and National Award Winner Filmmaker, Mr. Omung Kumar.

At the weekly 5th VEDA event of Whistling Woods International, the students were entranced by the innumerable possibilities of art –as the lesser known brilliant Art director and better known National Awards Filmmaker, Omung Kumar gave an insight on the subject of art of images and aesthetics and production work by saying, “Art is a skill which vibrates human life and soul and since you all are students of cinema, you should imbibe an aesthetic sense in you if you wish to be successful because an art director is extremely critical for any director as he decides the look of the entire movie.”
An AV was projected on the big screen on Spiritual Journey where Palmer J Parker explained about spirituality being the journey downward to the being or underground. He quoted clinical depression as “Not being in the dark but rather being the dark.” It was followed by an AV on evening’s topic, Art of creating images and aesthetics which covered from middle Stone Age to contemporary.
Mr. Subhash Ghai, Founder of WWI and 5th VEDA said to students, “It is amazing how much details and talent is required for a successful outcome when it comes to art. That is why we bring excellent of their respective fields, so that you can connect and explore various subjects related to Indian cinema and our culture. There is a story behind every art and music piece. If you develop your aesthetic sense, you will be closer to excellence in your chosen field and therefore this exercise is absolutely necessary.”
Omung Kumar then explained about the variety of media used by the artists which reflects the diversity of work being made in India today, often exhibited globally, from film and video to performance, collaborative working and installation. He said, “As they say God lies in the details, I believe Visual sense was embedded in me since my inception as my mother was a painter. Visual, photography, face, dialogue influences one person to buy the work. I dream fantasy. Painting is like an advertisement to me, it speaks in many ways and people will interpret it their own ways.” He turned the stage into a crucible for experimentation where some of the students joined him to get their hands dirty while spontaneously painting their thoughts on the canvas and later on signed their creations.
He went on to emphasize the infinite importance of art by mentioning, “A film lives for life therefore every movie frame should look like a painting.” He further expressed his deep love for art and said, “For many art is a fantasy. For me well I live in this world and love it.” He took an opportunity to create an art form for Whistling Woods International to keep.
