Irshad explained the repertoires of writing lyrics for movies and poetries to Whistling Woods International students in his poetic manner. He delved more into the subject and highlighted current Bollywood scenario by saying, “We are losing touch with our native language whether it is Hindi, Urdu or Punjabi and this influx of western influence in our linguistics is harming poetry and its various forms. As a writer try not to cater to consumerism rather explore the unknown areas and set a benchmark for your writing.”

Some talented students surprised Irshad Kamil with their own songs and poetries and also sang to the tune of his lyrics from a popular film. The interaction wasn’t subjected to just writing lyrics but also challenge him to invent his own lines with the flow of the given one. Irshad Kami here emphasized on the fact that only rhyming isn’t poetry. He said, “Rhyming is to ease the flow of poetry but thoughts are what makes up the poetry. Never compromise on them.”

The mood of the evening was electric yet melancholic. The string instruments played by Agnel Roman enhanced the mood with Irshad Kamil constantly reciting the poetry in the background. The interplay between Prajakta Shukre, who is also an Indian Idol runner up and Irshad took on a more intimate veneer and appeared in sync. The third movement began “attaca” that is without a pause at the end of the second movement. The connection of the lyrics enhanced the ever-building climax at the end of the singing performance. The extremely lyrical closing theme brought an element of glory to the entire presentation. There were lot of moments which were more serendipitous, in a sense, where the musicians were jiving together and reciting moments plucked out. It turned this event into a pretty unique experience.

Highlight of the evening was Irshad Kamil’s lyric quality of melodies. Simply put, his poetry was lovely, and much of the success of this laid in the faithful rendering of the performance.
